CUEZZI, DESIGNED BY LUCA NICHETTO AT MARMOMACC MEETS DESIGN 2010
Cuezzi, che in dialetto salentino indica le pietre naturali, dalle forme irregolari, è il nuovo progetto di sedute e piani in pietra leccese realizzato da Luca Nichetto in collaborazione con l’azienda leccese Decor Martena, presentato all’interno di Marmomacc meets design (Verona, 29 settembre–2 ottobre). In questa edizione sono stati coinvolti sinergicamente designer di fama internazionale, tra i quali il designer veneziano, la Regione Puglia, qui rappresentata da aziende che si occupano della lavorazione del marmo e della pietra e lo Sprint Puglia, Sportello Regionale per l’internazionalizzazione delle imprese, con l’obiettivo di accompagnare le realtà imprenditoriali locali verso nuove modalità di interpretazione e lavorazione delle pietre naturali. Irregolare-Ecccezionale è il tema su cui si sono concentrati i progettisti: nasce così Cuezzi, irregolare nella sua forma e nella materia di cui si compone – la pietra naturale -; eccezionale è anche la destinazione d’uso, sia indoor che outdoor di questo “salottino” in pietra.

Cuezzi, that in the dialect of the Italian region of Salento refers to naturally occurring, irregularly shaped rocks, is the new modular seating system made of stone quarried near the town of Lecce designed by Luca Nichetto in cooperation with the Lecce-based Decor Martena. It will be introduced at the next Marmomacc Meets Design (Verona, sept 29th -2nd oct). This year’s edition brings together a group of internationally renowned designers, including Luca Nichetto, and the Apulia region of Italy, as represented by stone-and marble-working companies and Sprint Puglia, the regional office dedicated to the international promotion of local businesses. The idea behind this is to move the region’s local entrepreneurial enterprises towards developing new ways of thinking about and working with natural stone.
“Irregular-Exceptional” is the brief from which designers have worked on: Cuezzi’s irregular aspect can be found both in the form of the natural stone employed and in each of the 7 modules of which it is comprised, which include seating components, flat surfaces and various accessories such as small tables and lanterns. The project is also “exceptional” with regard to the myriad ways in which it can be put to use, for this “living room” in stone can be used both indoors and outdoors.
